Info. Systems & Operations

Information systems are the base of what keep companies running. They are ways we've been able to keep information flows efficient while not losing quality of the information. They can be present at all levels of production and operations and is manifested in different forms. Being that ATI is an industrial components manufacturer, on the tangible end of the business in the factories they would implement an operations support system. These can include systems such as  transaction processing systems, process control systems, or design and production systems. These can help keep track of purchases and orders and keep the business running in check.

The next level would be design and production systems. These would be used in the conceptualization and the actual implementation of product designs. These would be systems like CAD  (computer-aided design), which allow designers to communicate intricate design instructions into forms that can be interpreted by the machining devices. Another system in this category would be the CIM (computer-integrated manufacturing), which can keep track of the movement of shipments and allow them to more effectively stock resources.

At the higher levels of the business there are management informations systems that allow upper level employees to have access pertinent information regarding the current status of the business. databases compile reports, such as sales analyses, inventory-level reports, and financial statements, to help managers make routine decisions. These information systems are connected to help interchange the information to allow the company to make quicker and better decisions. Another type of system is webcast services not only to keep people in the company informed but all stakeholders so that they can ensure that all aspects of the business are being looked after.
